Default estimate boundary layer thickness of a 3D bluff body

Hello all,

is there another way to estimate the boundary layer thickness of e.g. a 3D cube than by trial and error? Or some rule of thumb how to approach such a problem?
The analytical equation for the flat plate doesn't make sense, unfortunately.
