Would someone tell me what is the difference between Rayleigh instability and Rayleigh-Plateau instability?

Thanks

Rayleigh instability is the case where the inviscid velocity profile has an inflection point while the Rayleigh-plateau instability has something to do with the the instability of a liquid jet in air and is related to the break-up of the jet into blobs; i.e. when the cross-sectional area of the jet tends towards zero.

I think this is discussed in the book by Chandrasekhar "Hydrodynamic and Hydromagnetic Stability" - my copy is at home so I can't say any more,

hope this helps (and isn't too wrong)

Tom.
