Typical runtime for simulation with mesh movement?

hi,

I've read quite a few papers which simulate wings of insect (3d) or airfoil (2d) flapping. The Re should be 10^3 - 10^4. Does anyone knows what's the typical run time for 1 or 2 cycles, assuming using the university's super computing facilities? Does it need to take months?

thanks alot!

Hi,

It depends not only on the facilties but also on the procedure that you would be using to compute the unsteady aerodynamics. I am not sure about the 3D case but i am able to get solutions for typical 2D problems in a time of 1-2 hrs.
