FlowVision, a Russian CFD Programme
 

This is the first russian CFD programme I come across, you can download a 20000 node limited evaluation from their web portal www.flowvision.ru Enjoy, it has some interesting features and methods. I guess it is a serious competitor to the big guys.

Wau, at last my compatriots made something.

Although Russians are not so good in CFD but Russians fighters are the best

It's not the first one. FloWorks/EDF-Lab is based on the AeroShape-3D Program which was developed by Computational Aerodynamics Systems in Moscow. Later they started a cooperation with "Will and Partner GmbH" in Germany and formed "Nika". Developement is probably still in Russia.

The Floworks is now vigurously , silently is carving its way in the EFD field -making is available to the mass of designers- Fluent launched Flowizard after Floworks and I believe insopired by Floworks. Floworks is the T34 and others are Tiger,Panther etc. There was a competition between practical people like Cucherenco, Kalashnicov on one side and elaborated Dubbel,Hutte people like F.Porsche.

Look to the ease of meshing in Floworks how well is integrated in Solid Works and look to the complications and crashes of gambit Fluent meshing.

Also compare the smooth performance of Floworks with CFDesign's when importing and running radiation problems in complex geometries. If CFDesign manages to mesh it after 10 attempts (forcing you to increase the mesh desnity to a couple of million cells) then it will take a day or so to calculate the view factors and reconcile the mesh. It will take another half day or so after that till the simulation converges (if you are lucky).
The same model runs in Floworks for less than 4 hours.
In addition look how easy and intuitive is to setup the model in Floworks compared with Fluent or CFX.

Yep, those Russian fighters really do well at the Paris air show. :)

And yet another package for model metal casting, NovaFlow and NovaSolid from Novacast (http://www.novacastfoundry.se/index1...1=34&menuid2=5), has its CFD solver developed in Russia, albeit not as sophisticated as the general purpose tools.

I also heard that CFDesign has bought (some time last year) the cfd code/algorithm from FlowVision and is ether working on, or has already implemented it in their prog. It is good news for cfdesign because their code was highly unstable (the same models with the same settings run with different versions or builds of CFdesign could profduce very different results). They have been recently bought by Autodesk which is also good.
My company owns licenses of Floworks and I just love that program. My hope now is that the developers will implement some of the positive sides of Flotherm (like the calculation speed) and will make it perfect.

I'm happy that you like Floworks (now Flow Simulation)/FloEFD. Yes, the code has a very great history and is used in aerospace for some time now. Just recently it celebrated 21 years since the first license was sold to a russian aerospace company. At that time the code was known as Aero Shape 3D as someone mentioned already.

The technology of FloTHERM and the instantanious mesh is somewhat different to FloEFD and since FloEFD is a general purpose code with lots of physics that FloTHERM does not need (cavitation, non-newtonian flow, etc.) for its electronics cooling specialities, the speed of FloTHERM will not get into FloEFD from the FloTHERM technology side. But we will of course not stop to speed up the solver and mesher in future.
