what software for simulating water turbines?

Hello,

I am a beginner and I would like to make simulations of free surface machinery, water turbines, pelton wheels, archimedean screws, and the likes, but I don't know where to start.

Ideally what I would like is playing around with boundary values and 3d shapes and getting an approximate power output.

What is the best software for this kind of problems? is Openfoam practical for this?

thanks for the feedback
