Hey ppl,
which is the best software to create a structure mesh for an un-symmetric airfoil 2D and 3D, and how long will it take to make a good one with very less skewness i will be running my cases in OpenFOAM thanks, Hasan. |

Hi,
I am working on axial flow fan, it is twisted blade. I am using Gambit, it is bit easy comparing with other software, but it is not a good choice. If you are in the begging stage better to go for ANSA or ICEM-CFD. ICEM will be nice, but some utilities are really terrible (face with face trimming), it is very simple in Gambit. Since you are going to use OpenFOAM, better to stick with ANSA (ßCAE) and it produces direct OpenFoam Mesh. My personal opinion is, ANSA will be the best choice for OpenFOAM users. the license is bit cheaper than other software. Thanks, Sivakumar Last edited by sivakumar; March 28, 2013 at 02:12. |

one of my friends have used salome 6.5 for meshing his airfoil last year and it was good he had great control over the mesh..!!! but i was still thinking if anything better was available..
![]() i have used salome aswell for someother diff geometry but i was seeing if there is any softwares that u mentioned specialises on airfoil meshing as airfoil is one very common object to be calculated using CFD ![]() |

Please have a look at GridPro. You can create the highest quality meshes and it is free for academic use with a limited number of blocks.
I have two ready to run GridPro setups for NACA 0012 and NACA 0025 on my homepage. http://www.beilke-cfd.de/naca0012_gridpro.tar http://www.beilke-cfd.de/naca0025.tar Here is an example of the 0012 case for those having ccm+: http://www.beilke-cfd.de/naca_0012_5_degree.sim.gz |

You can also get templates for aerofoils from GridPro by mailing to gridpro@gridpro.com .

I am using Pointwise, and it really creates a good grid. Moreover, its simple to use.

In my opinion, ANSA is the best software for you to generate a mesh in fluid analysis
