Default cliynder mesh with waves

I want to simulate a fixed cylinder on a see.
I am going to use first order waves.

Could anybody tell me which kind of mesh is the best?
Base size?

My cylinder is 3m length and 1m Diameter.

You can do a Hex mesh pretty easily on such a case
