Hello everyone.

I have to create simple mesh with one little complicated detail. I would like to create structural mesh but in fact it will be a lot of work to mesh this 'one little detail'. I wonder if there is an option to fill with non-structural auto generated mesh a small box surrounded by structural mesh so I could make a compound. I would like to define structural mesh on surface of a box around the detail and fill it with non-structural mesh. Is there an option for that?

Have a nice day.

hello sheaker,
I'm interested on that, me too. Actually I don't know a solution for that because I'm a beginner. Anyway you want to do that in Salome or with snappyHexMesh. What is the purpose of this mesh?
Share more details, maybe some expert could answer and give us more details.

Thanks

Hi Valentine.
I simulate cuboid combustion chamber. There is a spark plug. I believe that geometry of this spark plug could affect on ignition process in its few first time-steps.
I would like to use Salome but I could learn a new tool if necessary.

Have a nice day!

Could you show the geometry, or an example of that?
What do you want to compound? What did it not succeed on Salome?

Be more precise.

Thanks

MPS2.png contains cross-section of geometry (without spark plug).

Example.png contains basic example of mesh I would like to create.

I think that Salome could create this non structural mesh but I don't know how to set it.

Once again: I wonder if there is an option to fill with non-structural auto generated mesh a small box surrounded by structural mesh so I could join them together (create compound and merge coincident nodes and elements)

What meshing software are you using? ANSYS Workbench would be preferably for me

As I said I would like to use Salome Meca because it's free and I get the basics of this meshing tool. But I could use other free software if needed. Unfortunately Ansys Workbench isn't free.

Have a nice day!

Hi Oskar,

I do not know about Salome but this can be achieved with GMSH.
This video shows how.

Regards,
Mikko

Thank You for Your reply Mikko. Unfortunately I cannot create geometry with gmesh because it usually is very complicated shape impossible to recreate with blockmesh or gmesh. Actually I'm doing some meshing in Salome right now and I think I'm gaining experience that I need to create final 3D hybrid mesh. For now I'm on a right track to create 2D hybrid mesh of an airfoil.
I think there is lack of meshing video tutorials and maybe I will make two or three within a months. Wish me luck and motivation

Have a nice day, Mikko.
