Hey, I'm trying to do some microfluidics simulations with OpenFOAMS interFoam solver. I made my Geometry in fusion 360 and exported it as a .step to Salome where I mesh it with Netgen Tetrahedrals. My inlet and outlet ports for my application are 2d patches I made in Fusion360, Salome doesn't include these 2d objects in mesh normally, but I can get around this by making the necessary geometry groups, applying the main mesh but not computing it, making a sub mesh of the inlet with NETGEN 2d and computing, then making a 2d projection sub mesh of the outlet port with the reference face as the inlet port and the reference mesh as the main mesh. Then I compute the main mesh and merge any duplicate nodes and elements and it looks like I have a healthy mesh.
However, when I use the IDEAS .unv to foam converter I get an error because the inlet and outlet groups are read as face zones and not patches (I suspect because they are 2d mesh?). Is there a better way of making a surface patch as an Inlet port besides using the fusion360 surface editor? the surfaces it creates appear to not translate to Salome very well... I'll attach a barb that i'm using to ensure I can render a stable simulation environment before I complicate my geometry too much. Ill attach a pic of the .unv after I exported it and re-imported it as a mesh back into Salome to look at it. That notice in the object browser was my first hint that something was happening that I didn't understand. |
