I am trying to mesh an axial turbine cascade with tip gap in AUTOGRID5. In the tip gap region the mesh is not matching fully (image attached). I would like to know whether its possible to make the mesh in this region matching without any node discontinuity. I was not able to find an option in AUTOGRID5 in expert mode to make this mesh matching. If somebody knows the solution for this, please help. Thanks

Hi;
different topologies exist in AG5 to mesh the blade rows among which "Default" and "HOH" are suitable for axial machines.
In case of "Default" topology, boundary patches in tip gap usually remains fully matched(I actually tested it many times!). However if the mesh is of "HOH" type tip gap blocks will not necessarily be matching. Although a NMB will not impose important errors in simulations you can try "Default" topology to see its impact on NMBs.

Thank you very much for your input.



I have selected the Matching Peridoicty option for getting matching meshes at the side periodic boundaries. Now I have deselected it and when I give equal number of points in suction and pressure side, I am able to get matching mesh inside the tip gap region.

In my opinion, having matching boundaries on the side of suction and pressure surface is more important than having to match in the tip gap region. and I agree to this that non-matching mesh in the tip gap does not make a difference.
