I want to generate 2D and 3D mesh of a vertical axis wind turbine. NUMECA has good grid generator and solver for rotating devices. As it indicates in product website it solves vertical axis wind turbine, but i couldn't figure it out. Here is the link : http://www.numeca.com/index.php?id=440

Anybody knows which blade row type needs to be used ??????

Hi Arslan,
We always refer to Z-axis if you are talking about the axis of rotation. The generation of mesh may take minutes only to reach more than a million of cells.

We prefer to use our NUMECA blade sketcher to generate the geometry. If i am not mistaken with your question, you are concerning about the mesh wizard in Autogrid(TM) 5 and thus you should refer to wind turbine template of course.

Hi ArslanOZCAN,

For design a 2D VAWT (darrieus type-H), first of all, I recommend you to choose different airfoils from "Airfoil Investigation Database" and using XFLR5 set up the parameters of lift and drag for differents AoA and compare and improve or modify the geometry of the airfoil you finally choose; that's only useful if you want to design a giromill, because if you want to design a controlled-pitch angle VAWT you only have to define the optimus AoA to get higher lift with a defined profile.
Once you select the airfoil, you have to import it to IGG as Data file (you have to define a 2D project before this step) and duplicate and positioning the airfoil with the number of blades you need. The next step is define the blocks, the grid, boundary conditions, ...

I hope will be useful for you,

Greatings,
Sanboju
