Mass conservation error overInterDyMFoam (OF v.1706)

Dear all,

I tried making a bug-report here (https://develop.openfoam.com), though I was not allowed to open a new issue. Therefore, I will report the bug here instead and hope that it is picked up.

OpenFoam version:
v1706

Solver:
overInterDyMFoam

Tutorial:
floatingBody

Modifications:
1. In the file background/constant/dynamicMeshDict, I set the property accelerationRelaxation to a value of 0.0. This effectively allows for the modelling of a fixed, floating box.

2. I extended the simulation time to something like 50 s instead of the 4.0 s in the tutorial.

3. I removed the damBreak component of the setFieldsDict, such that the water level is flat.

Observed behaviour:
After the modifications, the tutorial essentially models a fixed box in a closed container. It was expected to observe a stagnant solution. The only complication being that the fixed box is treated with the overset functionality.

It was rather observed that the water quickly drained from the computational domain. I expect that there is something happening on the interface of the two computational grids, but it was not apparent, what exactly happens in the overset-functionality, so I do not have any suggested solution.

Kind regards and thank you for looking into this,

Niels

P.S. I am very happy to see this new development and I see many possible applications, where we are currently restricted.

You'll have to register to post on develop.openfoam.com. Can you please post your issue on the issue tracker?

Thanks,

Mattijs

Hi Mattijs,

I did register, but every time I click on "New Issue", I simply get the list of current issues.

I have tested in both Firefox and Explorer with the same outcome.

Kind regards,

Niels

Did you log in? Are you accessing https://develop.openfoam.com/Development/OpenFOAM-plus?

Hi Mattijs,

Sorry for the late reply.

Yes, I log in and I still experience the same behaviour, namely that I cannot submit issues. I can see that you have opened an (related?) error, so thank you.

Kind regards,

Niels

We can masquerade as you and go to project, click on New Issue and all looks normal. Strange.

Hi Mattijs,

I am so sorry for the inconvenience. I went directly to "Issues" with the left drop-down menu, instead of choosing the project and then issues. The latter works, not the former.

I have added some feedback to your code change. I see some improvement, but it is not fixed yet. Let us continue in the bug-tracker.

Kind regards,

Niels
