Description:
When other writers than "raw" (for example "vtk") are selected in the sampleSurfaceDict, the program stops and complains that "raw" is the only possible selection (i.e. it presents a list of possible writers, that only contains "raw").

The problem seems to be, that there are no vtk-, dx- and so on writers defined for the types "SphericalTensor" and "SymmTensor"

When all parts concerning volSphericalTensorField and volSymmTensorField are commented out in sampleSurface.C, all works fine.

Are you sure this doesn't work in 1.4.1, I implemented all the writers for all the field types in that version but I only performed basic testing.

Hello Henry,

I am still working with 1.4 but I tried to replace the sampleSurface-1.4 by the one from 1.4.1 and compiled that. Both versions behaved pretty much the same.

But maybe I messed up something. I will check it again when I find some time and report again.

I just tested the version in 1.4.1 and it worked fine for me.

If you are back-porting the utility to 1.4, be sure that you grab all the sub-directories too (especially surfaceWriters!).
