Hi all

I discovered that the wmake rule march=opteron in linux64Gcc/cOpt can be a real performance killer on Intel machines. The pitzDaily test case needs 135s on my computer (Core 2 Duo T9300) when this option is activated. The execution time decreases to 82s when I remove the option.

In my opinion the opteron rule should be removed from the default wmake settings as it is very disadvantageous for many users. My proposal is to use something which is similar to the 1.6.x settings:

c++OPT = -O3
#c++OPT = -march=opteron -O3
#c++OPT = -march=nocona -O3

Best regards
David
