HronTurek Tutorial OpenFoam extend: no flag movement
Hello together,
I'm quite new to OpenFoam and CFD, so I am currently trying to understand the OpenFoam Tutorials. Since I am going to work on a FSI problem I thought it would be useful to run the "HronTurek" tutorial with the icoFsiElasticNonLinULSolidFoam solver proposed by the openfoam extend version (I work with version 3.1.). The calculation took one week (I couldnt run it in parallel, because of a compilation error...), and in the end the flag did not move at all. After some seconds there was kind of a steady state solution reached.. I didnt change anything in the files, except the writing interval, due to a lack of memory space :D I dont think that the installation of the extended version didnt work out, because the "flappingConsoleSmall" tutorial with the icoFsiFoam solver worked out well... Do you have any idea what could have been the mistake? Thanks in advance! |
Hello,
I've got the same problem. There are some changes in p, but vector U remains unchanged all the time in the fluid, so there is no deformation of the "flag" after filtering "Warp By Vector". I would be very thankful for any help, because I need to do FSI simulation in my thesis. Best regards, Bartosz Żłobiński |
Hello again,
I've finally done HronTurek with toolkit "Fluid-structure interaction" (http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/Ex...re_interaction). It contains tutorial, that works correctly. Best regards, Bartosz Żłobiński |
Hello Dear.
when i run HronTurekFsi tutorial case of icoFsiElasticNonLinULSolidFoam from foam-extend-3.1 without any changing of tutorial case, flag has no deformation. where is the problem Best Regards. |
Hello,
As I have written, it's better to use toolkit "Fluid-structure interaction". It works for me. Best regards, Bartosz Żłobiński |
Hello again,
I've finally discovered, how to see flag deformation in HronTurek tutorial case of icoFsiElasticNonLinULSolidFoam (foam-extend-3.2 for me). You have to do (in ParaView) Filters->Alphabetical->Warp By Vector and choose vector Vs. Flag's mesh should then move. Best regards. Bartosz Żłobiński |
to monitor the data of solid
in this case,in what way can i get the stress of the solid?
i have tried the probe, but get nothing(as the probe is located by Spatial coordinates), anybody has other ideas?thank you. |

The stress components are shown as a field in ParaView. These can be probed in ParaView if you like. Philip |
I am unable to get any flag movement even after doing "Warp By Vector" in ParaView.
Can somebody help me with this issue? |
Are you sure you are choosing the displacement vector field with "Warp By Vector"?

Thank you Philip. I am able to see the flag movement now. However, I am unable to see the fluid flow and the flag movement at the same time. I am attaching a screenshot of the paraView window for your reference. Can you please tell me how to see the fluid flow and the flag movement simultaneously?

Hi Saif,
You should load the OpenFOAM case in ParaView i.e. In ParaView, open a second copy of the fluid.OpenFOAM file in the case. In one of the opened cases, enable only the fluid domain and in the second enable only the solid domain. You can see this described in the tutorial for solids4foam here: https://www.researchgate.net/publica...s4foam_toolbox Philip |
