Hi Niels,
I have a question about the function of relaxationzone in the inlet boundary. It can absorb the wave reflected by the body in the numerical wave tank? which is just like the relaxation zone in the outlet boundary absorbing the waves to prevent reflection from the outlet boundary. Kind Regards Xiantao |

Yes, that is correct. If you look in my Ph.D. thesis, you will see that I have used it to absorp waves from a fully reflecting wall and a standing wave pattern is obtained in the inner part of the computational domain.
Kind regards, Niels

Hi Niels,
Is there any principle for choosing the length of the relaxation zone in the inlet boundary ( wave generation boundary), like one wave length or two wave length?? Best regards xiantao |

Good morning,
@aap1e: Take a look at the tutorials, especially 3DWaves. Kind regards, Niels

Dear all,
I am a beginner for openfoam and waves2foam. I have a question in relation to waves2foam. An inlet relaxation zone and an outlet relaxation zone needs to be defined. I can understand the reason why to define a outlet relaxation zone. However I don't understand why an inlet relaxation zone must be defined? Could some one help me explain it? Many thanks. Regards, Xiannan |

An inlet relaxation zone is required to absorb waves reflected/scattered from the model you are testing so that these waves do not affect your incoming waves prescribed at the inlet boundary. This works as an absorbing wavemaker similar to that used in some physical wave tanks/flumes. Regards, Ahmed |

Hi Ahmed, thanks a lot for your explanation. Now I have an another question (sorry for bothering you again). I try to see relaxation zone of tutorial waveFlue by means of relaxationZoneLayout utility. To my surprise I cannot find inlet relaxation zone (I know that they define inlet relaxation zone as well outlet relaxation zone). Do you know if I did something wrong or whatever? see the picture |

I use the relaxationZoneLayout to show the inlet and outlet relaxation zone, As shown in the attached figure. Copy the files (constant/polyMesh/blockMeshDict; constant/waveProperties.input ) in "waveFlume" and replace the corresponding files in "relaxationZoneLayout". |
