Hi,
I've tried to simulate first order bi-chromatic waves train in a 3D tank with 38.75m and variable depth, but in the results, the wave is losing height, the bichromatic wave should have at least H=0.1m but only have H=0.08m. This is a study case to validate waves2foam for bi-chromatic waves, the results were compared with experimental data in same conditions. In this graph you can see the results for the significant wave height along the channel for the both experimental (blue points) and numerical (red points) cases: Attachment 34644 The wave proprieties are: T1=1.5s; T2=1.1s; H1=0.05m; H2=0.05m; depht in the generation zone=1.15m; The mesh was generated using a mesh generation program and has acquired good results for stokes first waves with T=1.5s and H=0.08m. Specifying two waves of 5 cm will give you +/÷5 cm of surface elevation, so the significant wave height should be smaller then 10 cm. So, how did you obtain so large values in the laboratory? Kind regards, Niels |

I forgot to refer that the tank geometry has a width reduction to increase the wave heigtht and improve the hydraulic behavior. You can see the tank geometry in this figure: Attachment 34670 As i've said the mesh has acquired good results for stokes first waves with T=1.5s and H=0.08m so i don't think the problem is on the mesh. @Paulo: That a long wave (1.5 s) propagates correctly does not mean that a shorter wave (1.1 s) will on the same discretisation. Kind regards, Niels |
