Dear waves2Foam users,

I wanted to share with you the solution to a problem that I've been struggling with for quite some time.

The problem I experienced was that my simulations got stuck after at a random point. It stopped generating new output after have calculated the rigid boy motion. However, the simulation was still running and using the CPU.

The output looked like this:

Code:
Courant Number mean: 0.000129102 max: 0.248969
Interface Courant Number mean: 6.02908e-06 max: 0.171775
deltaT = 0.00350168
Time = 0.0389226

PIMPLE: iteration 1
6-DoF rigid body motion
    Centre of rotation: (0 0 -0.000748691)
    Centre of mass: (0 0 -0.000748691)
    Orientation: (1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1)
    Linear velocity: (0 0 -0.0381259)
    Angular velocity: (0 0 0)
Recently, I found out I placed the wave gauges too close to the structure. Even though I restricted the motion in the direction towards the wave gauges, the wave gauges were so close to the structure, that at some point in time the mesh deformed such that the floating object interfered with the wave gauges.

My mistake might seem quite obvious (and it is also briefly mentioned in the manual (warning 3.1)), but nevertheless, I hope my comment might be helpful for some future waves2Foam users.

Best,
Michiel

Hello Michiel,
Thanks for sharing your experience,
Could you tell me more detail your solver please, which OF you install, did you combine wave2foam and interDyMFoam ?
I try to combine combine wave2foam and interDyMFoam to create new solver in OF1812, but I have error as:In file included from waveProp.C:75:0:
/home/leqt/OpenFOAM/leqt-v1812/applications/utilities/waves2Foam/src/waves2Foam/lnInclude/readWaveProperties.H: In function ‘int main(int, char**)’:
/home/leqt/OpenFOAM/leqt-v1812/applications/utilities/waves2Foam/src/waves2Foam/lnInclude/readWaveProperties.H:27:38: error: ‘g’ was not declared in this scope
referencePoint.value() = g.value()/Foam::mag(g.value());
^
make: *** [/scratch/app2/OpenFOAM-v1812/build/linux64Gcc48DPInt64Opt/applications/solvers/multiphase/waveProp/waveProp.o] Error 1

Could you give me some hints, please.
Many thanks,
