Wave breaking occurring at H/D = 0.5 (wave height/Depth)
Hi,
This question is with regards to the waves2Foam solver. I am trying to simulate wave loading on a vertical wall (2D) under large wave height conditions. The wave properties are: H = 6.4m; D = 12.8m; Tp = 10.96s For waves to break the criterion should be H/D>0.7 and H>1/7 (wavelength). as you can see the H/D = 0.5 which is less than the criterion for the wave to break. After the simulation ran, the results showed that there is wave breaking occurring from the second wave onwards. Similar trend was noticed for H/D = 0.4. At H/D = 0.3, the waves stopped breaking earlier. The same is happening in olaFlow; interIsoFoam; waves2Foam in a simple waveFlume setup. I am not sure what this could be attributed to? Could it be the reflection from the wall? Or is there an error in my case setup. I have attached a short video of the simulation at H/D = 0.5. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EfZ...ew?usp=sharing Link to setup files https://drive.google.com/file/d/14Fz...ew?usp=sharing Kindly do consider. |
Solved it.
Incase anyone wants it in the future. I was using the Stokes theory for the specified water depths. For such big and long waves, linear (airy) and solitary wave theories are optimum and robust. These theories can run such high waves. Regards |
