Installing OpenFoam on windows 7-64
Dear OF community,
Lately I started working in a CFD company and they want me to instal OpenFoam (on my computer and/or server). I already work on OpenFoam for another company but I never had to deal with the installation. Can someone please help me (Ideally step by step) to do it or redirect me toward a website that explains how we can do. Thank you for your help Dadou |
Greetings Dadou,
Well, installing OpenFOAM on Windows is not officially supported. AFAIK, there are at least 2 possible solutions:

Dear Bruno,
First of all, thank you for your reply. To have all memory available to OpenFOAM, I want to install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on my computer so I can install OpenFOAM 2.2.2. On the official web site there are all the instructions to install OpenFOAM 2.2.2. The thing that I need right now is how to install Ubuntu and what is the best Ubuntu version for OpenFOAM? Kind Regards, Dadou |
Hi Dadou,
Sorry for the late reply. It really depends on how frequently you're willing to upgrade your Ubuntu installation. If you don't want to have to upgrade every 6 months, then Ubuntu 12.04 is the latest Long Term Support (LTS) version, which will be supported for a couple more years. The next LTS will be 14.04, which should be released on April 2014 and will be supported for... let me find the page that explains this... here you go: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LTS Keep in mind that you should always update, but not necessarily always upgrade ;) Best regards, Bruno |
Thank you,
I did as you said and now it's working :) I just have a problem to launch Paraview, when I write paraview on the Terminal, it opens it but I have this errors : "glFlushVertexArrayRangeNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glVertexArrayRangeNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glCombinerInputNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glCombinerOutputNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glCombinerParameterfNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glCombinerParameterfvNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glCombinerParameteriNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glCombinerParameterivNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glFinalCombinerInputNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glGetCombinerInputParameterfvNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glGetCombinerInputParameterivNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glGetCombinerOutputParameterfvNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glGetCombinerOutputParameterivNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glGetFinalCombinerInputParameterfvNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glGetFinalCombinerInputParameterivNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glDeleteFencesNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glFinishFenceNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glGenFencesNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glGetFenceivNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glIsFenceNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glSetFenceNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: glTestFenceNV not found in mesa table OpenGL Warning: No pincher, please call crStateSetCurrentPointers() in your SPU OpenGL Warning: No pincher, please call crStateSetCurrentPointers() in your SPU" And if I try to write something on the terminal, it closes Paraview Can you please explain to me why I have these errors ? Thnak you again B. regards Dadou |
Hi Dadou,
My guess is that you have not yet installed the graphics card drivers in your Ubuntu installation. I'm assuming here that you have installed Ubuntu 12.04 in a real machine and not in a virtual machine. Best regards, Bruno |

As for installing Ubuntu on VMPlayer, you can find instructions here, which should still apply to Ubuntu as well: http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/Ho..._VMware_Player Best regards, Bruno |
