[OpenFOAM.org] Upgrade to Ubuntu 14.04 needs OF 2.3.0 to be recompiled?

Dear all,

I would like to upgrade from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to 14 LTS.
Do I need to first delete OF 2.3.0 and then recompile it? I installed it on Ubuntu 12 with the Deb package.

Greetings Luca,

If you were using Ubuntu 12.04 and the Deb installation of OpenFOAM 2.3.0, and then upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04, then you should remove OpenFOAM 2.3.0 and install 2.3.1:

Code:

sudo apt-get remove openfoam230 paraviewopenfoam312

sudo apt-get install openfoam231 paraviewopenfoam410

Removing should be done as soon as possible, while installing should only be done when you're finished upgrading to Ubuntu 14.04.

Then don't forget to edit the file "~/.bashrc" and change any references from "2.3.0" to "2.3.1".

In addition, it's advisable that you backup your work before upgrading. This way you'll be safeguarded from any weird errors that could occur during the upgrade.
