Hello everybody,

Has anyone out there tried to install OF-2.1.x on a SuSE linux 10.1 machine.
I can see that the system requirements say OpenSuSe 11.3 and 11.4.
But there is a work around, it would be great for the only cluster at my disposal is this one.
Thank you for your help and best regards.

Greetings ebah6,

I haven't tested in openSUSE 10.1, but here is an old blog post of mine that explains how one can install a recent OpenFOAM on an old Linux:
Building OpenFOAM 2.0.1 on old Linux OSes - test case Ubuntu 8.04

Best regards,
Bruno

Thank you Bruno,

I am trying the installation but couldn't find the binutils for OF2.1.x.
For example,
wget "https://raw.github.com/wyldckat/ThirdParty-2.0.x/binutils/makeBinutils" is available but not for ../ThirdParty-2.1.x/..
I wonder whether there is an alternative.
For now I am going ahead and use the 2.0.1 files to see whether they work.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thank you.

Hi ebah6,

Use the ones already listed at
Quote:
Now let us go to the ThirdParty folder and get a couple of important scripts:
that they should work for 2.1.x as well.

Best regards,
Bruno

Hello Bruno and everybody else,

I think my SuSE version is too old (version 10.1) to support OpenFOAM-2.1.0/x
So I tried to install the missing libraries that are required by OF but it led me to infinite chain library dependencies ( i.e., any library that I want to install need another library that doesn't exist and so on ...)

My current problem is as follows, I need to use a SuSE-10.1 cluster but couldn't install OF on it due to what I mentioned above.
So would it some how possible to generate kind of executables from my desktop machine and run them in the cluster without installing OF on it?
I know this may sound stupid but what stupid is when we are 'desperate'?

I hope that someone can help with this issue or with a work around.

Best regards all.

Hi ebah6,

Well, you can start reading here: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...tml#post324236 post #3
There you'll find two possibilities:
  • static building;
  • or manual/selective packaging.
Best regards,
Bruno
