Quick answer:
  1. Edit the file "~/.bashrc". You can do so by running a command similar to this one:
    Code:
    gedit ~/.bashrc
  2. Find the lines that mention "foam" and "openfoam".
  3. Delete those lines.
  4. Save and close the file.
  5. Start a new terminal window.
  6. Install OpenFOAM 3.0 via Deb packages.
  7. Edit the file "~/.bashrc" once again.
  8. Add this line to the end of the file:
    Code:
    alias of30='. /opt/openfoam30/etc/bashrc'
  9. Save and close the file.
  10. Start a new terminal window.
  11. Run these commands:
    Code:
    of30
    which blockMesh
  12. It should tell you the path to "blockMesh", for example:
    Code:
    /opt/openfoam30/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/bin/blockMesh
  13. If it does tell you this path, then start another new terminal window.
  14. Install foam-extend 3.2, following the instructions given here: https://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/I...om_source_code
  15. When you come to this line:
    Code:
    cd ~/foam/foam-extend-3.2
    source etc/bashrc

    echo "alias fe32='source \$HOME/foam/foam-extend-3.2/etc/bashrc'" >> $HOME/.bashrc
run one line at a time in the command line.
  16. Then continue following the instructions.

If you do not know how to edit text files in Ubuntu, please search online (for example, with Google):
Code:
how to edit text files in Ubuntu
In addition, keep in mind that the file ".bashrc" starts with a dot "." and this means that the file is considered to be hidden. For more details, search online for this:
Code:
ubuntu hidden files

Very Thank You.......

but this is what I did in previous times....
I think the problem lies that OpenFoam Deb pack installs in /opt/
and foam extend installs in ~Home/foam?

Quote:
cd ~/foam/foam-extend-3.2
source etc/bashrc

echo "alias fe32='source \$HOME/foam/foam-extend-3.2/etc/bashrc'" >> $HOME/.bashrc
Does this code needs to be changed in that case....echo "alias fe32='source \$HOME/foam/foam-extend-3.2/etc/bashrc'" >> $HOME/.bashrc ...............?????

Is it the prob or am mistaking at some other place?

Looks like i was missing libraries...
ran the commands.

Quote:
sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install git-core build-essential binutils-dev cmake flex \
bison zlib1g-dev qt4-dev-tools libqt4-dev libncurses5-dev libiberty-dev \
libxt-dev rpm mercurial graphviz

Finally Done .
I can use both of30 and fe32 by aliasing.

Open new terminal and type fe32 it may work fine.
Once you typed of30 in terminal, then you may not be able to run fe32 in same terminal (As shown below).
Code:
ws01@ws01-S5520SC:~$ of40
ws01@ws01-S5520SC:~$ fe32
bash: /home/ws01/OpenFOAM/foam-extend-3.2/bin/foamGetSystemInfo: No such file or directory
bash: /home/ws01/OpenFOAM/foam-extend-3.2/bin/foamCleanPath: No such file or directory
bash: /home/ws01/OpenFOAM/foam-extend-3.2/bin/foamCleanPath: No such file or directory
bash: /home/ws01/OpenFOAM/foam-extend-3.2/bin/foamCleanPath: No such file or directory
bash: /home/ws01/OpenFOAM/foam-extend-3.2/etc/settings.sh: No such file or directory
bash: /home/ws01/OpenFOAM/foam-extend-3.2/etc/aliases.sh: No such file or directory
bash: /home/ws01/OpenFOAM/foam-extend-3.2/bin/foamCleanPath: No such file or directory
bash: /home/ws01/OpenFOAM/foam-extend-3.2/bin/foamCleanPath: No such file or directory
bash: /home/ws01/OpenFOAM/foam-extend-3.2/bin/foamCleanPath: No such file or directory
So open another terminal window and type fe32, it may work
