[OpenFOAM.org] Arch Linux unofficial repository for OpenFOAM

Hi,

I have just set up a repository for OpenFOAM for Arch linux. Please add the following into /etc/pacman.conf

[home_Minerva_W_Science_Arch_Extra]
SigLevel = Never
Server = http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/Minerva_W:/Science/Arch_Extra/$arch

for installing

pacman -S openfoam3.0.1

Note: Still has a little problem with foamyQuadMesh and foamyHexMesh as libboost_thread.so is not linked. I am now patching the option file and recompiling locally to see if the problem still exists, after that I will upload the new build file. As the OpenSUSE build system is slow

, the recompile will take about one day. Other functions seems OK in the package so far.

Update 4/24
openfoam foamyQuadMesh and foamyHexMesh repaired. As I am using system paraview for the build (5.0.1), PV4Reader plugin is excluded (and seems unnecessary...), but I will give it a try.

PV4Reader plugin is compiled, and the two plugin files loads without problem into paraview. but I don't know whether it works properly.

Added openfoam 3.0.x git version.

It seems that there is no need to compile PV4Reader plugin as ParaView for Archlinux can work properly with paraFoam without the plugin loaded. However, if I want to compile the reader plugin I will have to install the development file of paraview in CMake, which results in a conflict with vtk package of Arch Linux. So I took out the plugin in the most recent build.

Plz reply if there are any difference with and without the plugin loaded (which I didn't notify when running test case). I will move the ParaView to /opt.

Hi,
after installing the package with pacman i do not seem to be able to run openfoam.
I run

Code:

source /etc/openfoam-3.0.1.sh

but then i do not know how to start it.
Could you help me?

Hi Mgab

OpenFOAM is not a single executable. It is a collection of executables which do different things (e.g. executables for meshing, incompressible flow, multiphase flow, scalar transport etc). If you follow the end of the installation guide, it will show you how to run a tutorial. If the tutorials work well, it means your installation was good. Look at the tutorials to see how they use the different executables.

This is one big advantage of OF over Fluent for example. You only need to run the programs you need, and not one big dirty clunky monolithic executable.
