I use v16.10 from openfoam support without any larger problems. The integration in windows is very good:

Dear Uwe Pilz,

I see only
"OpenFOAM-for-Windows-17.02v1-win64-install.exe"

file on the web page you referred to.

Will it work for on 32 bit operating system?. From where I can get verstion 16.10 for 32 bit operating system? Or any version of OpenFoam for 32 bit operating system?.

Kind regards,
Khan

You are right, the version need a 64 bit system.

I tried the version 1.5.00b too. It uses a virtual linux machine with a shared folder for connection with windows. That means, the windows integration is more loose.

I tried it only at 64 bit systems, and don't know whether ist works with 32 bit systems. I don't have a 32 bit system anymore, so I am interested to hear from you whether it works.

Unfortunately currently it is estimated that less than 5-10% of CFD users have 32-bit machines and plan on using those machines to run simulation cases. That is essentially why the majority of the installers that exist today for Windows are only 64-bit.

Right now, the only solution that I'm aware of is to install a virtualization software and install Ubuntu or some other Linux distribution inside a virtual machine and install OpenFOAM inside it.

In the near future, I'm hoping to be able to write instructions for installing ports of OpenFOAM to run on Windows (specifically under the blueCFD-Core project that I work on) to also take into account 32-bit installations, but the downside is that people will have to build OpenFOAM from source code in those situations, which takes somewhere from 2 to 8 hours to do, depending on how old the machine is. But right now I don't have a time estimate of when the instructions will be ready and written.

Best regards,
Bruno
