[Windows] Error message "of_create_container.exe has stopped working"

Hi
Being completely new to OpenFOAM for Windows and the docker technology I hope you might forgive me in case of trivial questions.

I have just installed OpenFOAM 1612+ for Windows, apparently with no issues. However, attempting to run the file OF_Env_Create I get a windows error message saying that "of_create_container.exe has stopped working".

If I attempt to run OpenFOAM_Start this gives a slightly different error message: "of_create_container.exe has stopped working".

I have tried re-installing the whole package of Docker, VirtualBox, OpenFoam and Git, and naturally also tried rebooting the computer, without any luck. All running of files has been done by right-clicking and choosing "Run as administrator". I'm running on an updated 64-bit version of Windows 7.

Any kind of help would be highly appreciated

Just had the same thing- right click on the OF_ENV_CREATE and select "run as administrator".
Apologies to originator of this fix as I don't remember where I found it.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the same error message appears whether I run it as an administrator or not

Workaround

Just for your information: I performed a workaround for this issue and installed Windows 10 on the computer in question, instead of attempting to make it work with Windows 7. The issue i encountered in Windows 7 seems to be related to some kind of user profile corruption. When trying to perform the exact same installation on another computer with an updated version of Windows 7 the problem was not encountered. The computer that gave the error message had a fresh installation of Windows 7, and at the time of attempting to install OpenFOAM I had not yet attempted to install any other software on it. It might therefore be that the problem did not have anything to do OpenFOAM in particular, but was rather a more general operating system issue.

This post might be left open for some more time to see if anyone has anything more to add, in case others encounter the same problem in the future.

Hi Pawan
Do you mean the same problem, or are you thinking about another issue? :)
I did not run into the same problem on Windows 10. However, I did not get the standard installation package for OpenFOAM 1612+ to work as it is. There seems to be some kind of trouble with the version of VirtualBox which is shipped with the installation package for this version of OpenFOAM, on computers with the newest Windows 10 updates. I had to employ the fix presented here: https://github.com/ladybug-tools/butterfly/issues/222 to get it to work. This was however a very easy fix, involving simply to update VirtualBox to the newest version.

Thanks.. I am able to understand the fix as well issue generated because of virtual box version
