Hello everyone!

I am running a VirtualBox machine with Linux Mint 17.3 and followed the instructions to install OpenFOAM 4.1 in this link:
https://openfoam.org/download/4-1-ubuntu/

When I input this instruction:
sudo apt-get -y install openfoam4
An error appears saying "Unable to locate package openfoam4".

Why is this happening? The packages exist. I followed the link in a browser and they are there.
How could I solve this issue? By changing the distro of Linux?
How to install the package by hand?
I want to avoid installing by source because it takes loads of time.

Thanks,
Joćo Gil

Quick answer: Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu, but uses other versions names. You will have to check which Ubuntu version your Linux Mint matches up to.

Example of how to set-it-up with Linux Mint 18.2: Problem for OF-dev on linuxMint 18.2 Sonya

Thanks for your reply!

These are the versions; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_...ersion_history

Linux Mint17.3 is based on Ubuntu 14.04. I was also able to speak with CFD Support and they confirmed to me that the packages don't exist and the only way to install it is by source, which takes a lot of time and has some issues, namely installing Paraview (for some reason, it doesn't install it!)

If someone is also familiar with these issues, how did you avoid them?

Thanks,
Joao Gil

  1. OpenFOAM 4.1 + Ubuntu 14.04 ------>>>> https://openfoam.org/download/4-1-ubuntu/
  2. Look of the codename of Ubuntu 14.04 and use the steps given here: Problem for OF-dev on linuxMint 18.2 Sonya
