Install OpenFOAM 6 on Ubuntu 16.04 without root access
 

Hi all,


I am trying to install OpenFOAM 6 on my desktop at university. However, because it is managed by the university so I do not have root access.



I wonder is there any way that I can install OpenFOAM without root?


I think the installation guide on openfoam.org (https://openfoam.org/download/6-ubuntu/) cannot be done without root.



So I have tried this guide on openfoamwiki (https://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/I...u#Ubuntu_16.04) but there are still a lot of packages need to be install as root at the beginning. Is there a way to install all these packages without root?

Quick answer: You can try the following steps:

1. Install the same Ubuntu version in a virtual machine on your own workstation or laptop.
2. Follow the instructions on that wiki page.

Or you could try to asking nicely the system administrator to install OpenFOAM from Deb packages, or to at least install the necessary software development packages, as instructed on that wiki page/section.
