Hi everyone!

I originally posted this question in OpenFoam post-processing, but upon further thought I don't think that was the right spot for this question. Sorry about that.

Anyway.

I'm pretty new to OpenFoam and paraview, and I got everything I needed installed and everything appears to work fine, except I run into an issue when launching ParaView with the 'paraFoam' command.

I'm running Windows 10, and I followed this guide exactly:
https://openfoam.org/download/windows-10/
So I'm running a linux shell with UBUNTU 18.04 LTS. Paraview was installed through Ubuntu and apparently with Xming.

I tried a very basic tutorial to see if my install was working properly:
https://cfd.direct/openfoam/user-gui...ty/#x5-40002.1

But when I launch paraview with the command 'paraFoam', I get the following readout:

Created temporary 'cavity.OpenFOAM'
QStandardPaths: XDG_RUNTIME_DIR not set, defaulting to '/tmp/runtime-[user]'
failed to get the current screen resources
I/O : uncollated

Paraview opens and will display the model, but the data doesn't load in.
I've been trying to figure this out for the past few days, but unfortunately I'm not the most computer savvy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi brocklee, maybe I'm newer than you in OpenFoam, but I think I could help you in this.

First, did you press the Apply button of paraview? My question is because your say that are new on this.

1. Move inside the folder where you run the test:

cd your-example-folder

2. Create the empty file name-of-your-test.FOAM: (cavity.FOAM)

touch name-of-your-test.FOAM

3. Open the last file with paraview:

paraview touch name-of-your-test.FOAM

This allows you open your results without use paraFOAM. If the problem is the same, then the problem could be of your paraview software. It is easy to install other versions of paraview from its official website. You may try to install other version and try to repeat the before steps.

If the problems remain, then is problem of your output OpenFoam files.
If you have not problem with the new paraview version, I suppose that is easy to choose that paraFOAM use the new paraview version. I insist, I suppose.
