1. To check your system setup, execute the foamSystemCheck script in the bin/ directory of the OpenFOAM installation.......

I have a doubt that since i want to check my system setup before unpacking the files, then where is this bin/directory in the OpenFOAM installation??.....and how should i execute it??...

2. To check the version of Qt before unpacking the files, when i type qmake --version in the terminal ,then it shows :-
bash: qmake: command not found

How can it be resolved?

I know these question are very naivee but please anybody help me since this is my first simulation software i am working on.

hi
its seems you are newbie in openFoam but dont be scared just unpack zip file , then you will see in openfoam folder , bin directory then you will find foamSystemCheck in it!
then in terminal first go to that directory then type like this
./foamSystemCheck
now its executed.
there is a cookbook for openFoam install here

OK, assuming your home folder is named vivek and you install OpenFOAM in the usual folder, foamSystemCheck should be in this folder (assuming OpenFOAM 1.5 like in your other thread):
Code:
/home/vivek/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-1.5/bin/

Install Qt using the software manager in your Linux box. Without you telling us which Linux distribution and version you are using, it becomes a bit more difficult to orient you through the installation stages. Also, any particular reason for using OpenFOAM 1.5 or can it be OpenFOAM 1.6 or 1.6.x?

Best regards,
Bruno

Greetings Vivek,

In the link of my signature you can access to a blog post I made that has a list of threads that help with various installation issues. One of them is this:
Quote:
On how to build Paraview and Qt 4.3.5, including on how to use the cmake that comes with the package ThirdParty-1.6.linuxGcc.gtgz: New user needs help
Read the thread, the steps are described there in detail.

Good luck,
Bruno

1. while compiling paraview 3.6.1 using

cd $WM_THIRD_PARTY_DIR
rm -rf paraview-3.6.1/platforms
makeParaView

error comes after i type makeParaView

bash:makeParaView:command not found

so, then i typed ./makeParaView, then it shows an error

2. TO COMPILE PARAVIEW WITH ALOCAL VERSION OF QT.

The user should then compile ParaView using the local version of Qt by executing makeParaView with the -qmake option, giving the full path of the newly built qmake as an argument:

Since Qt isn't installed yet, you have no version of Qt installed!

HOW CAN IT BE RESOLVED??
It seems that you didn't unpack all of the ThirdParty binary packages.
Lets check two things:
  1. Lets check whether the OpenFOAM environment is working:
    Code:
    echo $WM_THIRD_PARTY_DIR
  2. Lets check which version of gcc is running:
    Code:
    gcc -v
Best regards,
Bruno

Don't try to build ParaView until Qt is properly built!

OK, you will need to install the development tools of openSUSE:

Vivek, qmake is part of Qt, so if Qt isn't firstly built properly, then you can't use it with ParaView!

Best regards,
Bruno

Ah, OK, I didn't understand that before. The binary qmake should be here:
Code:
$WM_THIRD_PARTY_DIR/qt-x11-opensource-src-4.3.5/platforms/$WM_OPTIONS/bin/

Have you checked if qmake is working? Try this:
Code:
$WM_THIRD_PARTY_DIR/qt-x11-opensource-src-4.3.5/platforms/$WM_OPTIONS/bin/qmake --version
How did you run the makeParaView command? I suspect you ran like this:
Code:
./makeParaView -qmake $WM_THIRD_PARTY_DIR/qt-x11-opensource-src-4.3.5/platforms/$WM_OPTIONS/bin/
But you must run like so:
Code:
./makeParaView -qmake $WM_THIRD_PARTY_DIR/qt-x11-opensource-src-4.3.5/platforms/$WM_OPTIONS/bin/qmake
Actually, so you can post the output from the makeParaView command, please run it like this:
Code:
./makeParaView -qmake $WM_THIRD_PARTY_DIR/qt-x11-opensource-src-4.3.5/platforms/$WM_OPTIONS/bin/qmake > buildPV.log 2>&1
It won't show anything, but the file buildPV.log will have what you use to see on screen. At the end of building ParaView, if it still doesn't work, please attach the buildPV.log file here.

WHEN I USE
./makeParaView -qmake $WM_THIRD_PARTY_DIR/qt-x11-opensource-src-4.3.5/platforms/$WM_OPTIONS/bin/qmake > buildPV.log 2>&1

cfd@linux-bw7o:~/OpenFOAM/ThirdParty-1.6> ./makeParaView -qmake $WM_THIRD_PARTY_DIR/qt-x11-opensource-src-4.3.5/platforms/$WM_OPTIONS/bin/qmake > buildPV.log2>&1
