OpenFOAM-1.7.1 Ubuntu-10.04.1 live DVD
1 Attachment(s)
Hello Foamers,
For sharing OpenFOAM with other colleagues here in Madrid, I have made a customized live-DVD of ubuntu 10.04.1 with OpenFOAM 1.7.1 built on. It is a 32 bit version and is available at http://dl.free.fr/glZBmERkc (EDIT: md5sum: f144ecc403194dce18062df5f726d841). I built it thanks to the method described on http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/personnaliser_livecd for personalizing ubuntu live-CDs (in French, itself based on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization). I attach to this message the scripts I used for that built, it can be of interest. It also contains some other useful packages: -> Nautilus-open-terminal, to open via the context menu a terminal where nautilus is pointing, -> Gnuplot, -> Scite, a text editor, -> Thunderbird. Before that I tried to build another live-system containing both the 1.6 and 1.7.x versions of OpenFOAM, but it finally failed. You can have a glance to that on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9797596. If it can be of interest to anyone, enjoy! Regards, Jean-Baptiste |
help please

But i see that openfoam is in /opt folder in the root directory. My Question is how can i install openfoam?, or it is all done already? and what about setting the variables and environment for the directories? How to do that? Thanks a lot |
Hello!
Glad to see my work is usefull! Well, on this liveDVD OpenFOAM is installed via the ubuntu packages, thus as root in /opt indeed. see http://www.openfoam.com/download/ubuntu.php, the answer for getting it working for a new user is the "User configuration" chapter. Post back here if you still have problems: I'm a bit rushy right now but can chat a bit more about it latter, and others can help too of course. regards, Jean-Baptiste |
Thanks a lot

Hi,
I like your effort to create a LiveCD to get quick access to OpenFOAM. There are also LiveDVD like CAE-Linux (ubuntu based) http://caelinux.com/CMS/index.php?op...d=49&Itemid=40 and GeekoCFD (Suse based) http://albertopassalacqua.com/?p=759 and for the OF-dev folks http://sourceforge.net/projects/open...u.iso/download from OpenFoam Workshop in Gothenburg |
I will try

thanks for your idea |
Hi Elvis and others,
@T.D.: maybe it isn't so useful to quote messages in each of your replies. Well, that's a detail anyway. I've already heard about CAE Linux but didn't try it get, indeed when I descovered it it was still the version based on the 8.04 Ubuntu, so I prefered something based on Lucid (ubuntu 10.04 LTS). I then built that with "Lucid.1" (Ubuntu 10.04.1) and OpenFOAM 1.7.1, both second reviews of the latest Ubuntu and OpenFOAM official releases, hence a stable stuff. CAE Linux 2010 now comes, based on Lucid and containing OF 1.7, but I don't know if those are of 2nd review or not. Anyway I wanted to add my own examples to it, so had to make my own Ubuntu live-system, what isn't such a difficult stuff finally. Nevertheless, for a better compatibility, This image is a 32 bit system and I didn't build a 64 bit one. So, for installing those tools on a 64 bits architecture, it is not the most accurate way. Since most computers used for calculating are 64 bit, if someone feels like building a 64 bit version (I haven't the time for that right now), (s)he is more than welcome! Basically, changing the base iso name in the attached building scripts should be sufficient. But the link can be useful for others, and thanks anyway. I hadn't heard about GeekoCFD yet, thanks! I also tried the Gothenburg DVD, but it's the 1.5-dev version in while I used the official 1.6 and 1.7 version (never used -dev version yet but look forward to doing so), so not useful for my current specific purpose. But as for CAE Linux, Thanks anyway. |
Hi
could it be that the up mentioned link is invalid (the one for ubuntu10.x.x and OF1.7.1) ? I tried to download the live dvd but for some reason I cannot connect to the server. regards Colin |
Yes indeed it doesn't seem to respond now, but it seems to be a ponctual issue on the whole dl.free.fr domain. I advise you to try again a bit later.
|
Well, it seems still to be down :-s
I put the iso on my UbuntuOne storage then: see http://ubuntuone.com/p/GnD Enjoy, JB EDIT: the 1st link (http://dl.free.fr/glZBmERkc) now works back again, so please prefer using it. Indeed, the file will be deleted if not downloaded during a 30 day period, and I will remove it from my UbuntuOne storage if I need space. |
Hi again there,
Just re-uplaoded the iso, as it had been deleted from the server. The version is not really up to date any more so there should be more relevant live solutions now, but anyway. It seems the posts are too old to be edited now, so I put the new link here (former one not valid any more) : http://dl.free.fr/dWP3zttcb Sorry for the inconvenience, JB |
