TheRocketMan is on a distinguished road
Hello everyone,

I have installed VirtualBox 4.3.12 and Ubuntu (2014-02-04) as well as guest additions and I am having some problems.
I am working with VB and OpenFoam for the first time so I would appreciate some help from the experts.

Here is the problem:

Everything is OK, until I try to run one sample tutorial. When trying to open paraFoam I get this error:

Anyone knows what is causing this ? Keep in mind that I am completely new to OpenFoam and VB/linux.

ps: before I didn't get this error when 3D acceleration was off. But OpenFoam requested I should turn this option on and since then I don't know how to fix it.

edit: also, I should point out I have installed guest additions. There was an error during the installation process ( I have stupidly canceled it) If I try to reinstall it its a success but I still get this mouse/keyboard notifications about mouse/keyboard integration.
Thx for help!
much appreciated

Greetings TheRocketMan and welcome to the forum!

I don't use VirtualBox myself, but the experience I've seen from other users is that the 3D hardware acceleration inside the virtual machines usually doesn't work as intended.
In addition, if you're using Ubuntu and using the default desktop interface, then it's an added problem.

Therefore, the three suggestions I have for you are as follows:
  1. If you still want to try the 3D acceleration, install LXDE in your Ubuntu virtual machine, and make sure you use it as the default desktop interface. It's a lot lighter and doesn't use 3D acceleration itself.
  2. AFAIK, others usually copy the simulation folder to the real Windows system for inspecting the results.
  3. Search here on the forum for "VirtualBox" and you should find other threads on this topic.
Best regards,
Bruno
