[blockMesh] Mesh Size Limit

Dear foamers:
Can someone tells me if there is a size limitation to the mesh using blockMesh? If I want to generate a mesh with billions of cells, how could I do, since Openfoam seems to kill the process of blockMesh when the mesh size is too large? How to solve the problem or where is the error coming from?

Dear Dirk,
without your blockMeshDict and the error log an answer is hard to give.
Just post it in

Please check your hardware first. Is your machine where you run blockMesh equipped with enough available RAM?
