Mesh directions - checkMesh results

Hello all,

Can someone enlighten me about the origin of the following message from the checkMesh utility?:

This mesh has no valid solving directions. dirs = (-1 -1 -1). Please check mesh definition for empty patches.
This is a 0-D mesh
Overall domain bounding box (-4 -3 0) (4 3 0.5)
Mesh (non-empty) directions (0 0 0)
Mesh (non-empty, non-wedge) dimensions 0
***Number of edges not aligned with or perpendicular to non-empty directions: 22126
<<Writing 11884 points on non-aligned edges to set nonAlignedEdges

Has this something to do with the consistency of the axis coordinates when I define my blocks?

TIP: When creating a mesh, frontAndBack patches cannot be set up initially as empty ones. That's the reason of this error. Initially set it up to "patch", then you can redefine it in "polyMesh/boundary" file to "empty".

Hope it solves your problem.

Best,
K

The error will disappear when you define the patches type and don´t use the empty type patch. I hope it will help.

Mesh moving

Hi

I like to move my mesh's cell only by dx/2 and dy/2 and create a new mesh. Could you please help me how to change the blockmesh file to create a new mesh whose cells are moved by dx/2 and dy/2 relative to the first mesh?

Thanks a lot

While this post is really old, but in case it comes up on a google search: I think what you're looking for, for shifting a mesh, is "mergeFields".

Hello, I have this same problem, and tried to do what you said and didn't work out. What do you think I'm still doing wrong?
