Hello Everyone,
I am new to gmsh and openfoam. I have a simple channel in gmsh and meshed it. I am trying to do a 2d simulation in openfoam and I am trying to do this by setting the boundary condition to "empty" for the faces in the 3rd dimension. I went through the previous posts and found that gmsh puts all faces in the default Faces and hence the following warning can be ignored.

FOAM Warning :
From function polyMesh:olyMesh(... construct from shapes...)
in file meshes/polyMesh/polyMeshFromShapeMesh.C at line 627
Found 6484 undefined faces in mesh; adding to default patch.

check mesh says mesh is ok

But when i try to run icoFoam I get the following error

Cannot find patchField entry for defaultFace

What boundary conditions ( as in P and U and boundary file )should I use for the default faces ?? Also when i try to visualize this in paraview I don't see anything. Looking forward to some help .
Thank you

Hi,

Did you define physical groups in your Gmsh mesh (they become OpenFOAM's patches after conversion)?

Do you use foam-extend? There gmshToFoam does not delete empty defaultFaces patch after conversion. So you should set type of the patch to empty in constant/polyMesh/boundary dictionary and use empty type in IC/BC (i.e. 0/*) files.

Alexym,
Thank you for your time and reply. I have defined the physical groups in gmesh. I am not using foam extend. Also I believe I still need to do my homework and background work when it comes to defining boundary conditions.

Will post more relevant questions when I have them.

Thanks once again
