Default FoamMeshToFluent

Hey All,
I'm currently working on a comparison between openFOAM and cfx, and therefore I need meshes in both formats. I started with the forward- and backward-facing steps of the tutorials and converted it with foamMeshToFluent without any error message. After that I tried to load the mesh into icemCFD to convert it to the cfx format. But an error occured which is obviously due to the last part of the converted fluent-mesh. Here a lot of 4s appear, which seems quite strange and looks like that:

...
4 299b 299c 2938 2937 13ba 0
4 29ff 2a00 299c 299b 141e 0
4 2a63 2a64 2a00 29ff 1482 0
))
(12 (1 1 1482 1 0)(
4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4
...
4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4)())
(39 (1 fluid fluid-1)())
(39 (2 interior interior-1)())
(39 (10 pressure-outlet inlet)())
(39 (11 pressure-outlet outlet)())
(39 (12 symmetry bottom)())
(39 (13 symmetry top)())
(39 (14 pressure-outlet obstacle)())
(39 (15 pressure-outlet defaultFaces)())

I also tried to convert the openFOAM mesh after solving the problem, as this converter is presented as a post-processing tool but I got the same results. Does anyone know if this is a bug, or if this must be due to an input problem???
Or has anyone already a converted mesh of the tutorial examples (forward- or backward-facing step).

Cheers
Florian

Hi Florian,

just create your mesh in ICEM, saving it as *.geo (CFX4) or *.msh (Fluent) and use OF's "import"-converters, works perfect!

Peter.

Hi Peter,
thanks for the hint. I tried it that way (cfx4) but none of the patches was defined in the boundaries-file. Where did you define the patches withihn icemCFD, so that they are overtaken from OF? I defined them in the BCs in the output area, before writing out the cfx4-file.

The above mentioned problem is solved somehow. I tried to import the fluent-mesh generated by foamMeshToFluent into CFX-Pre directly and it worked!

Hi Florian,

first, select CFX4 as the solver in ICEM.
To get the *.geo-File (cfx4) you need to specify the boundary conditions from the Output-tab first.
After that, do File>>Blocking>>Save Multiblock Mesh...
This creates the boundary-files.
Now the Write Input/Output command should work fine!
