Dear all,
I am ``fighting'' against this command: maxBoundarySkewness, whiile using snappyHexMesh. I thought that this value should stay in the range 0 : 1.. But it doesn't. Could you explain what this parameter is?? Thanks, Samuele |

I have the same question. Can anyone help? I took the 20 4 values from the motorBike tutorial but then skewed faces produce non-converging solutions when the grids are coarse (<600000 cells) for the complex geometry I use. And when I set the maxSkewness down below 1 the grid gets to coarse to work with. Many people asked this question now, nobody with any clue?

Hej Hanno,
I did a small research on this topic and found for my geometry that MaxBound values around 5 have the biggest impact on the skewness without reducing the quality of the mesh too much. MaxInternal should stay below 1. It seems from looking at the openFoam code that the definition of the Skewness is the same as in other software (not sure, but it should stay between 0 and 1) but that sHM has little problems in keeping a good mesh when trying to achieve those values. For a good convergence and low errors the values should stay as low as possible of course but most openFoam solvers can handle a little skewness. What that means in reality depends on your specific case I´m afraid... Bye cjm |
