[Commercial meshers] foamMeshToFluent

Hi everybody,

I've converted my OpenFOAM mesh into a .msh file but for 2D case OpenFOAM created a 3D mesh with the "empty" condition for the front and back faces. But in Fluent, this condition doesn't exist.

I'm a new user of Fluent, so can somebody tell if there is a simple way to fix this issue?

If I understand you correctly, you don't know why you have a boundary conditions 'empty' for the front and back faces?
If so, you might know, that OpenFOAM couldn't solve 2D task, only 3D. For the 2D cases he creates a volume task, the thickness = 1 cell. And for this volume b.c. is 'empty'.

thanks for your reply.
I had understood what OpenFOAM was doing. But when I convert my mesh to Fluent, it "sees" it as a 3D body with my front and back faces but I can't put an equivalent condition that does the same as "empty". So I can't solve my 2D problem with Fluent.

Well, if am not wrong you are converting from OpenFOAM to Fluent.

Now, the problem is OpenFOAM will only read the 3D mesh geometry, so as a user for 2D simulation one has to make 3D geometry in OpenFOAM. Since, you have made a 3D geometry by using blockmesh code so, when you will import in fluent it will show you the same.

For the case of fluent, the condition is different it needs 2D mesh for 2D simulation and 3D mesh for 3D simulation.

This means, you won't be able to call (or import) a case of 2D mesh/simulation of OpenFOAM for the 2D simulation of fluent.

I hope you got the point.

Yes, I got it.
So there's no way to fix the problem, that's what I wanted to know.

Hi,
Yes, if you use the "symmetry condition", it will solve a 2D case as with the "empty condition" of OpenFOAM
