is autoPatch usage the right way to solve empty patches issue?

Hi dear foamers,

I have an internal flow of a cascade but when trying to set "empty" BC for its front and back patches in "createPatchDict" I encounter with the error of " nonAlignedEdges".
I saw in forums that using "autoPatch" is the only way to get rid of it but I'm totally confused with its usage..

any help..?

Thanks in advance

Greetings Metti,

I've had this thread on my to-do list for some time now, but only today did I manage to get to it.

After re-reading your first post several times, I have to say that without an example case, it's a bit difficult to be certain of what the correct procedure is, since I'm not fully certain of what the exact problem is.

My guess is that the front and back patches are not "perfect", in the sense that at least one face on either side is not part of the patch or perhaps the internal mesh is not appropriate for defining a 2D case.

Therefore, please provide more information about the mesh of your case, although more specifically, provide images that show the mesh.
And do keep in mind that in ParaView, you can choose what mesh parts to display, so make sure to select all patches and to choose "vtkCompositeIndex" for telling the patches apart, as shown in the first attached image, which shows the patches for the "cavity" tutorial.

Best regards,
Bruno
