Greetings All ,

I m working with another Colleage on a problem dealing with Fluid Sturcture Interaction. He is responsible for the fluid simulation in Openfoam and I will continue with the FEM-Simualtion in Calculix. As for Calculix, 3 files are necessary in order to import Openfoam results and they are:

points

faces

cells

According to my colleague, the file "cells" doesnīt exist in the new OpenFoam Versions anymore and have benn replaced by 2 files named "neighbour" and "owner".

It is possible in OpenFoam to generate the file "cells" again?

I found a link to a code for that on the internet which was unfornetaly not applicable anymore.

Help!

Best regards

Thierry

Hello Thierry,

may I ask you one Question. Which OpenFOAM Version are you using?
That from the Extend-Communty http://sourceforge.net/projects/openfoam-extend/files/ or OpenFOAM Foundation

If you use the Extend-Version you might benefit from using GGI-Interface that helps you when the nodes on the FEM and CFD are not conforming

Hello Elvis,

Thx for your answer. I am using none of the both versions. Indeed, I have a windows-version installed on my PC and have started it once or twice. Actually my Issue is to tell
my colleague in which Format he has to export the results of his OpenFoam Simulation so that I can continue with the FEM-Simulation with the so called Open Source Calculix. I tried to convert the result in a foam-format but calculix canīt read it.
While browsing the Internet I came across the above-mentioned method and that is:

"Extract the data from the files: Points, Faces, and Cells"
from OpenFoam

somehow the File Cells doesnīt exist in the newest versions of Openfoam anymore and has been replaced by the Files Neighbour and Owner. Is there a way to create that file Cells again?

Thx

@gillers18: I'm working on a quite similar problem, so I was wondering if you have got a solution for that problem?

What I want to do is to calculate the pressure distribution of a panel, then map this solution on a panel in Calculix and calculate the displacements. According to these displacements I want to create a new mesh in OpenFoam and recalculate the pressure distribution, map it to the panel in Calculix, and so on. So that is kind of a Fluid-Structure Interaction. I am working with the OpenFoam Version 2.3.1.
Thanks for all ideas,
roma-aeterna

Hey roma-aeterna,

I have not found a solution to the problem but I made another Thread on this site and I looking forward for some Help. I think from that thread you can see how far I have come and which problem I currently have. See the following Link.

Please Let me know If u find smth.

Best Regards
