Coordinates for SnappyHexMesh
Hello,
I am writting today beacause I have an issue when I import a .stl file in openFOAM. I want to use a specific shape to modify a tank, the problem is, when I run snappyHexMesh, the system creates a .eMesh file thanks to the .stl file. This eMesh file is a conversion of the .stl file in order to import the shape at the good location in my tank. When I want to see the Tank with paraFoam, the system crashed because some vertices are not longer coplanar. When I check the eMesh file, I can see that there is a small difference between this coordinates and the coordinates in the .stl file for the same vertex. For istance, if my vertex is (100 1 -25) in the .stl file, this vertex in the eMesh file is (100 0.9999958456 -25). This difference makes paraFoam crashed and I do not know how to fix that problem... Any idea? Cheers, Max |
Hi maxime,
I am also a new user of snappyhexmesh but i will any way try to address your problem. Please forgive me if my answer is completely irrelevant to your question I think snappyhexmesh does not create .eMesh file.. You need to use surfaceFeatureExtract option to create the .eMesh file. This has to be done before starting snappyexmesh option. Cheers.. Ananth |
Hi Ananth,
Thank you for your reply, I run surfaceFeatureExtract before SnappyHexMesh. I have just fixed the problem, I increased the number of cells to define my beach using OpenScad to make a .stl file. I had another problem, I posted a thread about it but I fixed it too by increasing the number of cells. It makes snappyHexMesh script a bit much longer to run but it works. Regards, Max |
oh okie..
Good to hear that.. thanks for the information too.. It is very interesting how STL affects the meshing!! cheers, Ananth |
