Dear All,
I am trying to simulate a reciprocating engine with two vertical valves in OpenFoam 2.1.1. The mesh is in form of a KIVA mesh(tape17) which i have imported using the kivaToFoam utility. But after using the moveEngineMesh command , i realized that only the piston moves, the valves remain stationary. Now my question is that should i make Openfoam read the valve Lift data(tape 18) ? If yes, then how? Thank you for your time. Regards Last edited by AA29; August 15, 2013 at 23:03. |

Hi man,
I have met exactly the same question with you recently. I have struggled with it for weeks. I am wondering are you able to make to valve moving? Many thanks |

Hi,
I finally had to create a mesh using ICEM-CFD and use a mesh motion algorithm developed by Piscaglia et. al (Development of Fully-Automatic Parallel Algorithms for Mesh Handling in the OpenFOAMŪ-2.2.x technology). |

First of all, thank you very much for replying. I have just read through the paper you mentioned. It seems to me that the author has realize all the function that I want. However, I still get some question here: 1. Is this mesh motion algorithm implied into of2.3.x, or have you re-realize the whole algorithm by yourself? It seems to be a huge task for me. I find something similar called slidingInterface in of2.3.x, but I am not sure it is the right thing. 2. Have you tried the OpenFoam-extend? It seems to me that it has already got a lot of functions in it, such as engineTopoChangerMesh, engineValveSliding and so on. Are they different from what is implied in the pare? Can they fulfill my objection that to simulate a cold engine with spray and valve motion? Sorry for asking so many question one time, but I am eager for the answer deeply. Many thanks in advance. |

Hi xianqiejiao,
1. No i did not rewrite the algorithm by myself. I do not know whether it is part of the standard version 2.3.x available to everyone. I doubt it. 2. No I have not looked at OpenFoam-extend. I am sorry I have not been of much help. You might want to contact the authors of the paper, for information and help. |

Hi,
I'm new here and sorry if i written in the wrong place. I'm asking an help or a tutorial for use the slidinginterface and layer addition/removal in OpenFOAM. I need to know also if exist a gui where is possible handle them. Thank you for your help! |
