Hello, I'm trying to create a mesh using SHM tool around an infinite parabola, I think that my castelled mesh process is successful but I canīt figure out how to create a layer on the corners of the obstacle where the geometry is very sharp. I attach an image of my best attempt, and also I'm uploading the case file.

Any advice with this?

Hello Eduardo,
have you solved this problem with adding layer to sharp corner? I have the same problem with my mesh. Could you please share with me your solution.

regards
Yong

Try to play with featureAngle parameter in addLayersControl.
Third picture on this tutorial seems to be self-explainatory on how this angle affects your mesh:

Sometimes cells on this edge cannot be created, in order to prevent creating warped cells. You can force layer addition anyway by setting maxFaceThicknessRatio parameter to a greater value (like 2.0 or 3.0 instead or 0.5), but it might affect your mesh quality.

for such geometry seems that I canīt create the desired mesh, so what I deed is change a littelbit the geometry rounding that edge, and that works for me

I use cfMesh and I have a similar problem too, as you have mentioned, de-featuring is the best solution, what I have found during mesh generation. Making the sharp feature blunt or making round edges would definitely solve the problem.

Hi Yong,

Have you solved the problem? I have a similar issue with my mesh, see here.

The layers keep "breaking", where mesh angles are big. I increased the featureAngle param - it helped a bit, but as you can see, the problem persists.

Cheers,
Jan

Did you solved it?

I sometimes managed it to get higher coverage of the boundaryLayer by increasing the firstLayerThickness, but sometimes that also caused some other Mesh problems.
Maybye the terminationAngle could be a Solutions, which is usually 0.5 * featureAngle - but i dont have much experience with this parameter

Hi sandBo,

No, I haven't, playing with the featureAngle parameter helped to ensure coverage almost everywhere except one part of my mesh with an extremely steep angle. Thanks for the tip with the firstLayerThickness - may try in the future.
