Hi all,
I know this is a rather bold title for a topic. I am however quite confused about the error i get in my simulation with pimpleFoam. The error is: [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] *** Process received signal *** [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] Signal: Floating point exception (8) [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] Signal code: (-6) [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] Failing at address: 0x3e800003c2a [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] [ 0] /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(+0x3ef20)[0x7f2d58fd7f20] [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] [ 1] /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(gsignal+0xc7)[0x7f2d58fd7e97] [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] [ 2] /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(+0x3ef20)[0x7f2d58fd7f20] [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] [ 3] /home/ubuntu/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1906/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/lib/libOpenFOAM.so(_ZNK4Foam10GAMGSolver5scaleERNS_5Fi eldIdEES$ [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] [ 4] /home/ubuntu/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1906/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/lib/libOpenFOAM.so(_ZNK4Foam10GAMGSolver6VcycleERKNS_7 PtrListI$ [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] [ 5] /home/ubuntu/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1906/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/lib/libOpenFOAM.so(_ZNK4Foam10GAMGSolver5solveERNS_5Fi eldIdEER$ [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] [ 6] /home/ubuntu/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1906/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/lib/libfiniteVolume.so(_ZN4Foam8fvMatrixIdE15solveSegr egatedER$ [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] [ 7] /home/ubuntu/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1906/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/lib/libfiniteVolume.so(_ZN4Foam8fvMatrixIdE24solveSegr egatedOr$ [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] [ 8] /home/ubuntu/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v1906/platforms/linux64GccDPInt32Opt/lib/libfiniteVolume.so(_ZNK4Foam6fvMesh5solveERNS_8fvM atrixIdE$ [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] [ 9] pimpleFoam(+0x29f8a)[0x560b4bebdf8a] [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] [10] /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xe7)[0x7f2d58fbab97] [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] [11] pimpleFoam(+0x2d2ea)[0x560b4bec12ea] [ip-172-31-1-171:15402] *** End of error message *** -------------------------------------------------------------------------- mpirun noticed that process rank 5 with PID 0 on node ip-172-31-1-171 exited on signal 8 (Floating point exception). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- So i thought i would have a look at the mesh. Please refer to the attached .jpg. In the right corner of my refinement zone, a weird clustering appears. I should note that this is part of a convergence study. The refinement level you see in the picture is level 4, where i have successfully run the exact same model with refinement level 0, 1, 2 and 3. So something disturbs the mesh when it becomes too fine. I've tried to increase the iterations and relaxations in addLayersControl, more specifically: nRelaxIter from 3 to 10 nSmoothSurfaceNormals from 1 to 3 nSmoothNormals from 3 to 5 nSmoothThickness from 10 to 20 nLayerIter from 50 to 75 THIS HELPS! Although, the layer seems I have added through addLatyerControls completely vanish from the mesh if the above settings are saved. I.e. the layer around the cylinderequal to from the refinement region i have specified. Anyone who have experienced the same or have advice on how to avoid this? Thanks! /Rasmus Last edited by Rasmusiwersen; November 4, 2019 at 11:08. Reason: Misleading title |
