Hi every body

I wanted to mesh the surface of a .stl geometry using SnappyHexMesh. The problem is that I don't want to run my simulation in OpenFoam, and I only need a surface mesh with .stl format.
When I made the mesh with Snappyhexmesh, the outer box that I made for BlockMesh is with my mesh. I made the mesh from this box to the surface of my geometry, but I only need a surface mesh. Is there any way to delete the volume mesh from outer part of the geometry and also the outer box (that we draw for making the blockmesh)

Thanks a lot

Quite easy with OpenFOAM's on-board tools.

Follow this workflow:
  1. export the surface mesh
  2. split the surface mesh

This command will create a single STL file, which contains all the different patches as STL solids.

Code:
foamToSurface surf.stl
The following command splits the STL file into several STL files, one per patch.

Code:
surfaceSplitByPatch surf.stl
Note, that the patch name will be used as a suffix.

Thus, you will end up with multiple STL files:

surf.stl - all patches in one file
surf_walls.stl - all faces belonging to the walls patch
surf_out.stl - all faces belonging to the out patch
