Dear Foamers,

I used snappyHexMesh and different stl files to create my mesh, following the mixerVesselAMI tutoriel.

My problem is that at the internal face between the rotor and stator zones, the mesh is non coincident.
Below is a picture of the mesh, showing this non-coincidence.

I know for AMI computation it is not a problem. However, I want to run a MRF steady computation, without specifying AMIcyclic conditon at the interface.

So my question is, is there a way to make such a mesh coincident at the internal face ? Is it an option in snappyHexMeshDict ?

I tried to use stitchMesh, once my mesh was created, without success. Is there any other possibility ?

Thank you in advance for your help,

Mat

Hi Mat,

As far as I am concerned, snappyHexMesh does not provide you with an explicit option to obtain conforming interfaces between adjacent zones in your mesh. I would create (triangulate) my 'stl' files using triangular meshing capability of a third party (such as Salome) and make sure that the interface between zones (here rotor and stator) match perfectly. Then you can use these 'stl' files as input for snappyHexMesh, and hopefully it may result in the quality that you expect! See "https://damogranlabs.com/2019/09/salome-multiregion-mesh/" as a reference.

Cheers

Hi Rango,

Thanks for the reply and the link.

What I did to overcome this non-coincidence between stator and rotor parts, is to use a cylindrical background mesh. In this way the mesh matches perfectly and I could use MRF for the simulations.
