Hi Foamers,

I'm simulating a two-phase flow and I would like to refine the free surface such that there is cell growth from the initial phase boundary (free-surface). I'm trying to creating a searchablePlate and add layers to it, but I'm getting no refinement so far. I've attached a copy of my blockMesh and SHM files if anyone could point me in the right direction. Especially if I'm going about it the wrong way!

Cheers
Callum

I assume that adding layers is a function for patches of wall type, where a boundary layer is needed. This function is not designed for purely mesh refinement and result cells usually have large aspect ration. To refine mesh about the free surface, have you tried Region-wise refinement?

Hi Marpole,

Yes I did try regional and have made do with that. I would be interested to know if the layering can be done. I did manage to get something like it, however if you use a searchablePlate that spans the whole domain, it essentially cuts the domain of at the plate meaning you have to stop short of a domain boundary (see pictures).

Would be interested to see if it's possible!

Cheers
Callum

I tested your idea and understand your question. When you span the plate to the whole domain, the searchable plate becomes a new wall or new domain boundary that mesh stops at. At this moment, adding layers also become possible/available. So, the solution is to do regional refinement.
