Hi all,
I've been attempting to fix this issue for a while but to no avail. I am looking for a snappyhexmesh mesh of a semi-complicated stl file from inventor. I am looking for the mesh to be cleanly wrapped around image 1 (the raw stl file). However I am getting what is outlined in images 2 and 3 after running blockmesh, surfacefeatures and snappyhexmesh. Below is my snappyhexmeshdict: Code:
/*--------------------------------*- C++ -*----------------------------------*\ ========= | \\ / F ield | OpenFOAM: The Open Source CFD Toolbox \\ / O peration | Website: https://openfoam.org \\ / A nd | Version: 8 \\/ M anipulation | \*---------------------------------------------------------------------------*/ FoamFile { version 2.0; format ascii; class dictionary; object snappyHexMeshDict; } // * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * // // Which of the steps to run castellatedMesh true; snap true; addLayers false; // Geometry. this is a commun issue that a lot of us had with snappy, go higher in refiment over the edges this will help you a lot (second level of refiment in the region section of castelated and the level in edge section of castelated too) this should help, try this and post results (I would go with a level 2 maybe....) EDIT: ps. snappy preferes when you give hexa perfectly cubic cells, it would work in other cases but it will be beneficial! franco |

Thanks for your reply,
I don't have any region refinement, is that something I should do instead? Anyway, I ran it with a refinement level of 2 in the edge and surface sections of castellation, however I have ended up with similar results afterwards (shown below). Here's the new snappyhexmeshdict: Code:
/*--------------------------------*- C++ -*----------------------------------*\ ========= | \\ / F ield | OpenFOAM: The Open Source CFD Toolbox \\ / O peration | Website: https://openfoam.org \\ / A nd | Version: 8 \\/ M anipulation | \*---------------------------------------------------------------------------*/ FoamFile { version 2.0; format ascii; class dictionary; object snappyHexMeshDict; } // * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * // // Which of the steps to run castellatedMesh true; snap true; addLayers false; // Geometry.
