Hello guys,

I am creating a hexa mesh on a commercial sw (BetaCAE ANSA) and applied OF strict quality criteria. However when i perform checkMesh -allGeometry a number of small determinant cells are found. I had a look on other threads but I did not find a similar case.

When isolating the mentioned cells they appear to be at the border of the domain in the intersection between two faces. Their shape is perfectly tetrahedral. Attached you'll find a series of images to visualize the cells.

These cells are connecting faces with different BCs (patch, symmetry...).

How does checkMesh algorithm calculate the cells determinant? Is the fact that these cells have two faces on the domain border that cause a small determinant? Finally, can I proceed with the simulation with this kind of error, or it is essential to fix it?

Thank you in advance!

Rocco

Hi Rocco,

Indeed this is related to the cells having faces on different domain boundaries. We also have these for many of the cases we run and it is not an issue.

Best Regards,
Tom

Hi Tom,

Thank you for the reply!

So, in case of divergence of the solution I can exclude that the cause is related to these warnings? I am triyng to "unbox" the problems to find out the critical issue.

Bests,
Rocco

Hi Rocco,

Well in our cases it was never a problem. Not sure if there are occasions where it would be an issue, but it does not seem likely.

Cheers,
Tom
