[blockMesh] blockMesh command is not executed properly

Hello, I recently installed OpenFOAM on my laptop through wsl. the version I am using is openFoam2206. I gave a command cd usr/lib/openfoam/openfoam2206/tutorials/incompressible/simpleFoam/pitzDaily
after that, I gave blockMesh command but I am getting an error. I uploaded a screenshot of that error could please what to do next?

The tutorials usually involve a step where you copy the tutorial files to another folder in your "home" directory. I am no Linux pro, but I assume this is exactly the reason.
I was always able to run the commands in a copied tutorial folder somewhere in my user directory.

Code:

cd ~
mkdir test
cd test

cp -r usr/lib/openfoam/openfoam2206/tutorials/incompressible/simpleFoam/pitzDaily .
cd pitzDaily

blockMesh

Reading the error, it appears obvious: there is no write permission in this directory. I don't know if one can enforce it, but it appears to be good practise to keep the installation path clean and work in a copy. Maybe someone with more background knowledge about Linux permission management can elaborate a bit more.
